Common Car Paint Problems You Need to Spot

Your car’s beauty is dependent on a variety of factors. And one of them is the paint. The color you have chosen says a lot about your taste and personality. However, it is essential to know that the car’s paint is not just for aesthetic purposes. It also serves as a protection for the metal casing. Without it, the metal will deteriorate and get damaged.

However, there will be occasions when the car paint becomes flawed and damaged. It is important that you know what these common damages are, so you will know how to deal with them appropriately. Below is a list of common car paint damages that you may want to keep in mind:

Problem #1: Rusting

Rusting is one of the most common issues related to car painting failure. When moisture works its ways into the wounded or chipped areas of the paint, oxidation takes place. And when that happens, rust will start to manifest. Having your car body repairs at a shop not using sealer or wax may also cause rusting too. To keep this problem at bay, you are supposed to wash and wax your car often. Repair your garage door spring and the door itself, so you will be able to park the car there and keep it out of the weather.

Problem #2: Cratering

Check your car paint and spot crater-paint opening in the finish. Craters are shallow holes that appear after applying a coat of paint. And it is often caused by the contamination of silicone or grease. Polishes and silicone-based aerosol can sprays may also cause this problem. Your car should be regularly maintained by professionals to prevent such problems. For repairs, you can have the affected areas refinished or sanded.

Problem #3: Cloudy stains

This condition is called blushing. In this case, a greyish cloud appears on the paint’s surface after its application. This happens when the car paint is sprayed during humid conditions. It can get worse when the paint is drying fast, or you have used an unhealthy proportion of thinner. To prevent this, always degrease the surface with silicone remover or wax. When blushing happens, the car paint specialist should apply heat to the problem area or add additional coats of paint.

You may also encounter similar problems, such as pigmentations and yellowing. In any case, your car paint specialist should be able to deal with these properly.

Problem #4: Chipping in places

When it looks like that the car paint is peeling or being chipped, it just means that the paint finish is losing adhesion. This happens when the car surface is not properly prepared before the application of paint. It may also happen when the right sealer is not applied. To prevent this, the car paint specialist should also degrease the substrate carefully. Paint materials should also be compatible with the surface.

Act fast!

Many of the car paint problems are not obvious or difficult to notice. But if you have noticed some dilemmas and aesthetic issues, do not try to deal with them yourself. You might end up causing more damage. Instead, act fast and have a specialist check on it.
